Moon Service Misas

misa article mar2021 690 Preparing the Altar for a Misa Ceremony in the Loft.

Beginning with our Ostara Service, and continuing with the April 10th New Moon Service, Four Quarters is pleased to announce that we will be hosting a monthly Misa Espiritual to honor our beloved ancestors. Misa Espiritual services will be held on Friday nights of Moon Service weekends at 7:00 pm in the Loft.

A Misa Espiritual, or Spiritist Mass, is a beautiful  ceremony of prayer and song to honor our family of birth and spirit. It is practiced by most houses of Cuban Santeria and many other traditions of the Afro-Caribbean Diaspora. The liturgy is mostly Roman Catholic and popular prayers with our own Four Quarters favorite prayers added in. (Prayer books and hymnals are provided)

The spirits of our departed beloved are drawn to us by our offerings of cigar smoke, cool water, white flowers, candlelight, and white rum. These spirit guides can speak through trained Spiritist Mediums, sometimes possessing them with dramatic results. The Misa Espiritual moves us into alignment with our ancestors, and many feel closer to their ancestors after attending a Misa.

White clothes are strongly encouraged, and white head coverings are required. If you do not have a head cover, one will be provided. A head cover serves as a filter to prevent influence by unwelcome spirits and is necessary for the spiritual safety of everyone involved.

There will be a class about the Misa Espiritual, its do's and don't's, and the history of Cuban Spiritism; prior to each Misa service. The class will be held in the Loft and begin at 7:00 pm.

Pamela Alexander (Eguin Colarde) has been practicing Spiritism for over 20 years. She is a Santera with three years in Ocha. She also has background in Gardinerian Wicca and Roman Catholicism.
